Volunteer Coordinator Scores “Community Quarterback Award” and $11,000
Long-time
CFP volunteer coordinator, Hal Nolan, received some well-deserved recognition
in December 2004 when he was given the "Community Quarterback Award" by the Miami
Dolphins Foundation and NFL Charities.
"The coaches, players and staff
of the Miami Dolphins are very proud to join NFL Charities and the Cooperative
Feeding Program in congratulating Hal Nolan for his dedication to South Florida",
stated a letter accompanying an $11,000 donation for Hal's work at The CFP.
This
is the second time in three years that a CFP volunteer has been cited for this
prestigious award. Hal has been a volunteer with the agency since 1993. You too
can join Hal's winning volunteer team and help Cooperative Feeding Program by
contacting Hal at nolanins@aol.com.

Board President Sees Strong Growth Potential
During
my years as a Board Member of the United Way of Broward County, I was fortunate
to meet Marti Forman and learn about the wonderful activities of the Cooperative
Feeding Program. That relationship has led me to the privilege of becoming Chairman
of the Board CFP this year. This is an exciting and pivotal year for us. The challenges
have never been greater as we find ourselves in an environment where the social
safety net is being shredded. But our opportunity to grow, to advocate, to serve
the people whose voice is not very well heard is enormous and we will rise to
the occasion. We have three major goals this year: balance and stabilize our funding
sources, develop a strong Board Committee structure which will support the staff
of CFP, and create an enhanced sense of identity about the work of CFP through
a well executed marketing program. We are well under way in all three areas. CFP
has been blessed over the years with the right people to appear at the right times
and create the necessary energy to take us to new levels. As each of you reading
this newsletter learn about the virtuous and humane work of CFP, I invite you
to join us in our next steps of growth. You have never been more needed and you
will never find more joy than in helping to ease the pain of those in need.
—– Jim Foster, President

OFFERS | Feinstein
Foundation Offers Matching Funds
From a $1,000,000 fund, The Feinstein Foundation of Rhode Island is once
again offering up to $50,000 in matching funds to food assistance agencies, like
CFP, for any food and cash donations received during the months of March and April.
Depending on how much support for food programs is raised nationally, the foundation
distributes the matching funds in a pro-rated fashion. Each can of food is valued
at one dollar.
So, during March and April, PLEASE plan to hold a food
drive in your condo or neighborhood, in your office, church or synagogue. This
is a wonderful event for youth groups too! Just one individual can do so much.
Collectively, we can then translate all your individual kindness and donations
into cash that will feed even more people!
If you need help with ideas
or "how to" conduct a successful food drive or fundraiser, please call Marlene
at (954) 792-2328 and we’ll gladly share our experiences with you.
