Hi {Fname},

May 2006

USPS Letter Carriers Food Drive, Saturday, May 13th

On May 13th, all the US Postal Service Letter Carriers will be collecting food for the hungry throughout the country. Here in Broward County, The Cooperative Feeding Program will benefit from the food collected in 15 post office branches. This is our largest food drive of the year and we are SO grateful for the Letter Carriers - especially Union Branch 2550 - and all those of you who give food. Please leave the canned foods by your mailbox on the Saturday morning in the plastic bag you will receive in the mail - thanks to Publix Super Markets. The food will be collected by your letter carrier.

If you would like to volunteer on Saturday, May 13th from 2pm-6pm to help us sort the food, please contact Liliana at (954) 792-2328.
We need 200 volunteers please!

Many thanks to: Interiors by Steven G. and Transworld Business Brokers for their generous local sponsorship of the event.

Mother's Day, May 14th

Honor your mum with a gift of caring this Mother's Day. We can send your mother a greeting card, letting her know you have made a gift of caring in her honor to those in need. Please visit www.FeedingBroward.org/donate and be sure to include your mother's name, address and a message to her in the "Comments" box.

A WINNER NIGHT AT THE RACES

CFP Board members Lew Krongold, newly appointed Domenic Faro, Marty Basson and Rocki Rockingham assemble in the Winners Circle
In what has been the most successful year yet, the 3rd annual "Evening at the Races" benefit for The Cooperative Feeding Program gathered more than 110 supporters on March 27th at Pompano Racetrack for a delicious meal, some great company and an outpouring of support for the less fortunate in our community.

Many thanks to the Pompano Racetrack for the excellent meal; Jarden Consumer Solutions for the outstanding raffle prizes; the women of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Weston who organized the raffle; Thrivent Financial for Lutherans for their match and to The Cooperative Feeding Program Board member Lew Krongold who spearheaded the event. For those of you who missed this great occasion, we will see you next year!

FORM YOUR OWN 'GIVING CIRCLE' OF FRIENDS

A giving circle is a group of friends and family that comes together to help - a group that wants to be philanthropists but, on an individual basis, feel their gift would not make a huge dent. As a group though, their collective support is more substantial. There are groups with annual dues of $365, just a dollar per person per day.

Would you, your family and friends consider starting a "Giving Circle for The Cooperative Feeding Program?" Make a pledge of just a dollar a day to provide a meal to over 250 people a year. Every little bit helps and you could start and be the change you want to see in the world.

When you have planted a seed for change and formed your "Giving Circle for The Cooperative Feeding Program" - or if you have any questions - please let us know Bruce@FeedingBroward.org.

So much good for so little….

"I am only one, but still, I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And, because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do what I can."

- Edward Everett Hale

FOOD IN MEMORY OF RUTH

The 6th annual Ruth W. Shapiro March for the Hungry held March 30th in Coral Springs and Parkland, Florida was an impressive success. More than five tons of foods were collected from throughout northwest Broward County by members of the National Council of Jewish Women who in turn donated the food to local organizations who feed the hungry. The Cooperative Feeding Program received almost a truckload of food from the successful collection, as did the Daily Bread Food Bank and WECARE. More than 14,000 flyers were distributed through 24 public and private schools in Parkland and Coral Springs.

HURRICANE VICTIMS SUPPORT GROUPS MEET

The Cooperative Feeding Program has been supporting Project HOPE in its bimonthly "Hurricane Survivors Support Group" for those who live in Broward County. There are scores of families still cramped into FEMA trailers for whom both Project HOPE and The Cooperative Feeding Program are trying to find a permanent housing solution. The hurricane season starts again on June 1st.

WESTON BLOCK PARTY BENEFIT

Waterford Landing, a lovely community in Weston, held its first charity event on Sunday, April 2nd, to benefit the homeless. It took place at the community park with a volunteer DJ (Jason Banks from Jammin' Express Entertainment), games and entertainment. The benefits from the community event came to The Cooperative Feeding Program and have been used to purchase much needed food. Thank you all! If you would like to organize a community event, please contact Bruce@FeedingBroward.org or (954) 792-2328.
