Hi {Fname},

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

JULY 4TH - A HUNGER FOR CHANGE IN AMERICA

This July 4th we commemorate 229 years of democracy and peace in the United States of America. We will celebrate with juicy hamburgers, exploding fireworks, fun family picnics and victory parades. We deserve to celebrate "liberty and justice," but we must not forget the "for all" part.

You may be shocked to know that close to 30% of the hungry people served each day at The Cooperative Feeding Program are veterans who put their lives on the line to defend the freedom we celebrate this 4th of July, yet they have been excluded by the same society they fought to protect. It's simply not fair.

This year The Cooperative Feeding Program's community kitchen will be open on the July 4th national holiday to try, in a small way, to right wrongs. We will be here to serve the veterans and provide food "for all." Providing food for the body, as well as the soul, is the core of our Mission. Help us, please, by clicking here and making a secure online donation. Feeling sad about the defenders of our nation going hungry is one thing; DOING something about it is another.

May God Bless America - all of us.

BIG "THANK YOUS"
NATIONAL HUNGER AWARENESS DAY SUCCESSES

Scores of people joined in the important National Hunger Awareness Day remembrance on June 7th. In response to The Cooperative Feeding Program's brown bag appeal, many people took a sandwich to the office and sent their savings from eating out to our agency. Thank you all! Why not arrange a "brown bag day" each month in your office and collect the proceeds in support of The Cooperative Feeding Program? Put your ideas and concerns into action.

On June 5th the Sun-Sentinel did an extraordinary report on hunger in Broward, publishing photos that hungry clients from The Cooperative Feeding Program had taken. If you would like a reprint of the article, please contact Bruce@FeedingBroward.org

GIVING CREDIT

Many of the staff from Consolidated Credit Counseling Services, Inc. participated in donating lunch money for National Hunger Awareness Day on June 7th. The employees donated $225.00 and the company matched the collection, giving an amazing $ 550 to be able to purchase more food for the hungry and homeless! Congratulations - and thank you!

APPRECIATION FROM THE HEART - AND THE STOMACH.

Over the past few weeks, we have given the people we serve the opportunity to write down messages for those of you who have generously supported The Cooperative Feeding Program in its Mission "to feed hungry bodies, minds and souls". Below are a few of the heart-felt thanks:

A personal message for the person who gave you this food
My name is Beverly. I thank each and everyone for the help that you all have giving me. I had a house fire. I know now how much donation for the needed is important. Thank you all in my time of need. I promise to donate from this day on so I may help people in need.
Thank you again. Beverly F.

A personal message for the person who gave you this food.
Thank you for helping my family. Times have been very rough for us.

A personal message for the person who gave you this food.
I want to thank the persons responsible for the food. Without this food we would have gone hungry May God Bless you!

HUNGER NEWS
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Summer is one of our busiest times of the year in terms of feeding people. Yet it is one of the slowest times of the year for volunteers as many students are out of school and adults are on vacation. PLEASE spare us a few hours each week or month to come in and help in the Emergency Pantry. Volunteers are needed anytime during the week between 8:30am and 4pm. We are also looking for a person with maintenance experience to volunteer to help us out in the afternoons. Please contact Chris at (954) 792-2328 or chris@FeedingBroward.org

ST THOMAS AQUINAS HIGH SCHOOL: SOCIAL JUSTICE IN ACTION

In June, a group of more than 25 students from St Thomas Aquinas High School's Social Justice in Action summer school class helped out at The Cooperative Feeding Program. They worked with us for six mornings.

"I wanted to help out in the community", explained Mark, a lanky 15 year old student who starts 10th grade this fall. "I had never been to a place like this before. It's a good thing that people come together to help the less fortunate."

This is the second year St Thomas' students have volunteered at The Cooperative Feeding Program, preparing and serving food as well as sorting clothing for the clients.

"You never know what its like until you see it", Mark reflected as he looked for a size 32" pair of used pants for a homeless man who could have been his grandfather. "Young people who have never been here before don't respect homeless people, but when you come here and meet them you see them as real people".

The teenager turned to the unshaven man. "What color pants would you like, sir?".

FOR INFORMATION ON HOW YOUR SCHOOL, CHURCH, OR TEMPLE CAN VOLUNTEER, PLEASE CONTACT Dorothy or Chris at (954) 792-2EAT(2328).

AN URGENT CALL FOR FOOD

Due to a tremendous increase in the demand for emergency food, The Cooperative Feeding Program is now distributing an average of 4,000 to 6,000 lbs of food every day. This is a 25% increase over 2004.

PLEASE consider organizing a food drive in your neighborhood, condo, church, temple, school, club, etc or making a donation to the emergency food fund? We can provide you with ideas for posters, a list of what is needed, etc, to make it easier for you to organize the food drive. We can thank the donors and show them how their food was distributed to the hungry.

If we cannot get more food, we will have to restrict the amount of food we can distribute. Many needy children and their families will go to bed hungry in this, the richest country on the planet. Please contact Bruce@FeedingBroward.org if you have any questions, or call (954) 792-2328. And, thank you.
