BIG
"THANK YOUS"
| Lola
Jordan, Director of Community Impact Division for the United Way of Broward County,
literally drove through the storm to hand deliver a $ 2,500 donation to The Cooperative
Feeding Program. 8/25/05

THANK
YOU to all who responded to our Hurricane Katrina emergency appeal last week -
and especially to the Equilibrix company for facilitating its distribution. Thanks
to your generous support, we were able to purchase a significant amount of food
on the Thursday morning just prior to the hurricane (August 25th) which was immediately
distributed. The Cooperative Feeding Program's building sustained some roof damage
which caused leakage and the Community Kitchen had some floor flooding. What broke
our hearts is the fact that we had to throw away several hundred pounds of frozen
fish and meat due to a power failure and our freezers thawing. We were able to
save some thanks to people letting us use their freezers, but we could not save
all. We have no generator.
It was so heartwarming to know that despite
the fact you were all preparing for the onslaught of the hurricane, you still
took the time to think about others…

HUNGER
NEWS
| Sweet
success: Claudette Larkin and Eileen D'Ambrosio
| SWEET
CHARITY
For the past year and a half, several dedicated staff at the
Atlantic Shores Health Care center in Pembroke Pines has taken the time to care
about the hungry and have been selling candy to raise funds for The Cooperative
Feeding Program.
In July 2004, Eileen D'Ambrosio came up with the idea
to sell the candy and enlisted the help of Janet Krop, Claudette Larkin and Nilda
Turrene. To date they have raised over $ 5,000 to help purchase food for the hungry
of Broward County.
Theirs is an example of how a simple idea and a little
extra effort can make a world of difference to those in need. Please let us know
how YOU will help the hungry this fall. If you would like suggestions for a Thanksgiving
event or holiday season celebration for those in need, please contact Bruce at
