FEEDING PROGRAM SERVES KATRINA VICTIMS
After having served hundreds
of hungry families as hurricane Katrina barreled down on Florida at the end of
August, the agency is now serving former New Orleans residents who have been relocated
to Florida. During the past few weeks, relocated families from the Gulf states
have been approaching The Cooperative Feeding Program asking for referrals and
food support.
"We shall do our best not to turn anyone away empty handed,"
promised Marti Forman, CEO of the award winning agency. "By the same token, we
can only give away what others have been kind enough to share."
Many churches,
groups and individuals have started to organize food drives to help keep up with
demand. If you would like to organize a food drive in your community, street and/or
condo, please contact Marlene at (954) 792-2328 or Marlene@FeedingBroward.org.
 WE
NEED FOOD!
Donations
of canned meats, beans, fruits, vegetables, peanut butter, dried milk, pasta,
rice, and cereal are always needed. Baby food and baby formula are also huge needs.
Just as they get stocked on the shelves, they go right out. Also, donations of
small shampoos, conditioners, soap, toothbrushes, razors, and shaving cream help
those living on the streets and those just making ends meet. Donations can be
brought to our location, 1 NW 33rd Terrace in Ft. Lauderdale, Monday through Friday
from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Many thanks to the churches, temples, schools
and other groups who have organized food drives recently - you are really kind
to have taken the time to reach out to others.

PREPARING
FOR THANKSGIVING
Each year, The Cooperative Feeding Program makes
a special effort at Thanksgiving to reach out to the homeless who are alone during
what is essentially a family celebration of giving thanks for all our blessings.
We are now planning for this year's Thanksgiving month - just a few weeks away.
If you and your family would like to make a special Thanksgiving pledge
to help cover our extra food costs during Thanksgiving, please visit our special
"Giving Thanks" website http://www.justgiving.com/pfp/ThanksgivingAppeal
where you can leave a personal message for the homeless or hungry person who will
benefit from your kindness. Your message will be given to those who eat in our
Community Kitchen the week of Thanksgiving.
Despite the daily challenges
we all face, we have so much to be grateful for. Please help us make Thanksgiving
an inclusive holiday this year, giving a hot meal and friendship for those who
are on their own.
TAKE
THE KATRINA PLEDGE….
Speak out for those who cannot speak, for
the rights of all the destitute (Proverbs 31:8)
The poverty we
have witnessed on the rooftops of New Orleans and the devastated communities of
the Gulf Coast is morally unacceptable. It's time to take action - starting with
a renewed personal commitment to overcoming poverty in America.
If you
care about building a new America, read and sign the Katrina Pledge today!
