A
MESSAGE FROM MARTI FORMAN
Dear friends,
The
holiday season has thrust itself upon us here at The Cooperative Feeding Program
and we are still trying to assess all the damage hurricanes Katrina and Wilma
have left behind for us to clean up. Not just our own personal damages or lost
property. Not even our thousands of dollars in lost food or our leaking roofs.
We're still trying to assess our personal, close to home losses - our families
who have been left with significant damage to their residences, home condemnations,
delinquent bills, job loss, eviction notices, utility disconnections, and so on
.
I am always a humble "asker." I don't like being forceful in using hard-sell
methods to get your attention. But this year I am doing what I have to do to address
a problem that will only grow larger as the holidays pass and we move into spring.
I
am asking that you move The Cooperative Feeding Program to the top of your holiday
shopping list. For all the reasons I know I don't need to mention, I want
you to think of us first. Here is my list of what you can do:
- Assess
your planned holiday expenditures. Reduce that gift budget by 10 % and send it
to The Cooperative Feeding Program.
Make
a pact with the ones you love to hold off on luxury gift purchases, just this
one time, and direct that expense money to The Cooperative Feeding Program's food
and housing assistance budget.
Challenge
your office workers to raise some holiday money for The Cooperative Feeding Program's
big gift - we desperately need a forklift, roof repair, refrigeration units, industrial
shelving, a pallet jack, gravity rollers, tires, and to fix a foot-square hole
in the company's big truck (compliments of Wilma).
Send
a pledge: A promise to eliminate one monthly expenditure and instead send that
money to us to use for diapers, formula, kids vitamins, adult diapers, and diabetic
foods, Ensure or Boost for those dying and unable to eat solid food.
Many
of us lost trees and screens, thousands of others have been totally devastated.
Be it a small gift or grand, The Cooperative Feeding Program needs to be on
your list. Our gift to you is our promise to provide comfort and support
for those who have been ripped apart physically and emotionally by the catastrophes
of this past year. We look forward to opening our gift from you. On behalf of
all of us here, I wish you a holiday of peace and security,
Marti Forman

THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR THANKSGIVING KINDNESS
Many generous people
stepped up to the plate this past Thanksgiving to try and bring a little happiness
into the lives of many people who, after being devastated by hurricanes and despair,
were searching for things to give thanks for. More than one thousand
families were served with a special Thanksgiving food box which included either
a turkey, Honey Baked Ham or a food card.
More than 65 volunteers from
the TARGET Corporation invaded The Cooperative Feeding Program on Thanksgiving
Day, filling the agency with much caring and sharing on this special day. The
corporation also made a $ 5,000 donation for food.
The Florida Panthers
Foundation partnered with the Cooperative Feeding Program to run a charity
food drive during each of the Panthers first three home games in November at the
BankAtlantic Center. The wives and girlfriends of the Panther team members then
volunteered their time at The Cooperative Feeding Program on November 21st and
donated 100 Thanksgiving meal baskets - including delicious Honey Baked Ham -
for those in need during the holidays.
The Rotary Club of Weston produced
100 turkeys; the Plantation United Methodist Church gave generous support from
their Good Samaritan's Fund; the Edward W. Smith, Jr. Foundation; the United Way
and Publix Super Markets for their food cards and many, many others all made Thanksgiving
a festival of caring for those in need. Thanks to each and every one of you.

DONOR
ALERT!
In September, President Bush signed into law a measure that
allows donors to write off up to 100% of their adjusted gross income for charitable
cash donations made from August 28-December 31, 2005. This is a one-time opportunity
- normally, the maximum allowable deduction is only 50%. This measure is designed
to encourage contributions to all qualified charities, which of course includes
the Cooperative Feeding Program. Many nonprofits are experiencing downturns in
giving because of the great outpouring of donations earmarked for hurricane and
tsunami relief this year.
This may provide you a significant tax break.
This may also make it financially advantageous for you to make a charitable gift
from your retirement account(s).
Because every taxpayer's situation
is different, we encourage you to consult your accountant and/or financial advisor
to see if you can benefit from this change.
VOLUNTEERS
NEEDED FOR GALLERIA MALL
The Cooperative Feeding Program is benefiting
from the Holy Cross' "Bag Hunger" campaign, in celebration of the hospital's 50th

opportunity to support a family in need from the Holiday Tree of Life. Located
in the mall's upper level, shoppers can offer a monetary contribution to The Cooperative
Feeding Program through Tues. Dec. 20th from 10am through 10pm.
We need
A LOT of volunteers to help PLEASE! If you can sign up to help for a few hours
