Wound
and Hyperbaric Clinic Earns Accreditation
|
 Wound
and Hyperbaric story: Great River Wound and Hyperbaric Clinic is the second
clinic in Iowa to achieve three-year accreditation by the Undersea and Hyperbaric
Medical Society. |
Great
River Wound and Hyperbaric Clinic has achieved three-year accreditation by the
Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. The clinic is the second in Iowa to receive
this voluntary accreditation.
Hyperbaric facilities must meet more than
700 standards to become accredited. They include patient care and rights, administration,
education, infection control, maintenance and quality. Only 10 percent of hyperbaric
clinics nationwide are accredited.
"Receiving accreditation indicates
that we are giving the highest standards of care in our hyperbaric clinic," said
Donna Williams, Wound and Hyperbaric Clinic supervisor.
The Wound and
Hyperbaric Clinic opened in 2004 and has provided more than 5,000 treatments to
patients who meet indications for hyperbaric treatment. This is the second distinction
for the clinic in a year. Last August, Great River Medical Center became the first
hospital in Iowa to earn Joint Commission disease-specific certification for outpatient
wound management.
The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society is a nonprofit
professional organization that serves members in more than 50 countries. It is
a member of the Joint Commission's Liaison Network and uses the commission's guidelines
for accreditation.
