National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week began in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order establishing the week as an annual celebration of volunteering. Since then, every U.S. President has signed a proclamation promoting National Volunteer Week. Additionally, governors, mayors and other elected officials from all over the country make public statements and sign proclamations in support of National Volunteer Week. The 2008 theme is "Volunteer to Change the World" and runs from April 27th to May 3rd.

We would like to thank all members of our Board of Directors, Board of Trustees and all the volunteers who come to the shelter and to our community and fundraising events for your commitment and dedication to the animals of our community. We couldn’t fulfill our mission without you!

Bark at the Park – another Tail Waggin' Success!

Bark at the Park was a huge success this year with more than 1500 adults and children attending and more than 750 dogs!!!! Thanks to all who attended!

Volunteers Needed at the South Clinic!

The Humane Society of Greater Miami’s Cutler Bay South Clinic is looking for volunteers to help with administrative tasks. There may be minimal hands on work helping staff intake animals that are being dropped off for surgery or assisting with minimal veterinary technician tasks, but mostly administrative help is needed. At the South Clinic there are no animals for adoption - only clinic services are available at this facility. If you are interested or would like more information, please email Cindy Hewitt at cindy@humanesocietymiami.org. Due to the high volume of customers at the facility, please do not call; please allow 24-48 hours for a response.

Pet of the Month

Meet Lucy Lu! This beautiful Belgian Malinois mix is 6 years old and really deserves a loving family -she has been living in the shelter for more than 3 years. Lucy Lu does need to be the only dog as she like all the attention - no other mutts, thank you! For more information, please call 305-696-0800.
