The Society
Takes in Louisiana Pets Left Homeless by Hurricane Katrina
| On
Wednesday, September 21, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League of
Palm Beach County flew in approximately 100 pets left homeless
by Hurricane Katrina to the Palm Beach International Airport.
The Humane Society of Greater Miami/Adopt-A-Pet, along with
other rescue groups from as far as Vero Beach, met the airplane
that transported the pets from the Lamar-Dixon Exposition Center
in Louisiana. |
|
 |
Ten
dogs and four cats were brought back to the Society's North
Adoption and Receiving Center and placed in special rooms so
as not to displace any of our local orphaned animals. While
a little scared, thin and bewildered, the pets are getting used
to their new surroundings and are receiving much-needed medical
care, shelter, food and TLC from our staff and volunteers. All
of the pets have been listed on Petfinder.com in case their
owners are looking for them and will be returned if claimed.
The Society will care for these pets for several weeks before
making them available for adoption in late October. |
Please
help us care for these orphaned animals! The Society is a non-profit
organization and receives no funding from government agencies or
from any other animal welfare organization. We rely completely on
people like you to help us care for animals like these. Please click
here if you would like to make a donation to the Society to
help care for these pets, as well as the more than 300 local homeless
animals we care for each day.
Hurricane
Katrina Paws for Relief Update
The
Humane Society of Greater Miami/Adopt-A-Pet created the Paws
for Relief fund to raise money on behalf of the Humane Society
of the United States for pets affected by Hurricane Katrina. The
Society was thrilled when a generous donor in our community offered
to match all donations received up to $20,000! In less than two
weeks, we met and exceeded that goal, thanks to the kindness of
animal lovers in Greater Miami and beyond. To-date we have raised
more than $50,000 for pets affected by Hurricane Katrina!
Here at the Humane Society of Greater Miami/Adopt-A-Pet, we are
in constant need of funds to help us care for the more than 300
homeless pets in stewardship every day, including the animals brought
from Louisiana. To make a real difference in the lives of the many
deserving homeless animals in your community, please click
here to make a contribution today.
October is Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog
Month!
|
|
Open
your heart and your home to an orphaned dog from Humane
Society of Greater Miami/Adopt-A-Pet during
the month of October! Doing so will help create more room in
our shelters for the homeless pets of our community and from
hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast states. Remember, the Society does
not euthanize healthy, adoptable animals to make room for others.
The only way we can continue to rescue more pets is for more
people to adopt! During the month of October, the adoption fee
for dogs five years and older will be lowered to just $45! Adoption
fees include spay/neuter surgery, up-to-date vaccinations and
microchip identification. Visit our website
to see who might be waiting for you! |
